Goal
Make Harris County Safer and More Just: Reduce racial, ethnic, and economic disparities in the criminal legal system
Summary
The Racial and Ethnic Equity Committee, Racial and Ethnic Equity Committee, aligned with the CJCC Strategic plan, is tasked with reducing racial, ethnic, gender, and economic disparities across the justice system. The Committee will focus on identifying and addressing systemic inequities:
- Identify Issues: Systematically review policies & practices that drive disparity.
- Create Collaborative Solutions: Collectively develop & implement reforms aimed at promoting equity.
- Implement Solutions: Commit to implementing & evaluating system-wide solutions.
Recognizing the importance of community involvement, this committee will ensure that those most impacted by the system are heard and actively included in the process of identifying problems and creating solutions. By fostering trust and transparency, we aim to create equitable change that reflects the values and needs of community members.
